Updates for dec/jan Events AND help needed!!!‏

Overseas climbing trip!!

Trip is 4d3n. Going to KL batu caves to do natural climbing (its friendly to the less proficient) and Kl’s famous camp5 climbing gym!! Check out camp5 and go to gallery for more information on the gym!

Of coz, the trip wont be jus climb and climb. It will be so boring! So there will be rest and relax activities like visit to the insides of batu caves itself, waking up early in the morning to queue up for free visit to KL’s twin tower, visit to KLCC’s science centre (its not childish ok, its fun!), shopping movies arcarde bowling etc at 1utama shopping megaplex where camp5 is located and visits to night markets in the heart of KL!!

We will be sharing a 3star suite room to fit everyone in. The beds can be seperated into 2 to slp more ppl. Probably alil bit squeezy still but that makes e whole trip cosy and cohesive!! hahaha. Or we are stayin in backpackers inn. It all depends on the finalised number of ppl going.

checkout berjaya plaza suite rooms pictures here!

Total trip budget wont exceed 400-500SGD MAXIMUM for sure, inclusive of e travelling and accomodation and expenditures there in total. Of coz, thats provided you spend normally over there, not inclusive of personal shopping!

Sounds super fun eh? Sign up with us asap so we can make necessary arrangements!!

Deadline for signups for KL climbing trip, chalet and level 2 profeciency course will be end of next week 13 november!!\
Training camp is not that urgent yet. However, we would appreciate prompt signups to make necessary arrangements early!!

Singlet and logo designs for bouldermania!!

Lastly, we welcome any designs for our singlets and logo for NTU’s annual home bouldering event for our own ppl : bouldermania!!!!
So if u are creative and u haf any designs in mind, do email me asap as we need to submit for printing soon!
We hope to have brilliant designs by our own people for our own home event! Afterall, you will be the one wearing the singlet with the logo on it!!

SRC closed. =/ T.T

SRC will be closing from 2nd november til after exams as it is used as a examination hall and other reasons

Thus there will be NO MORE wall trainings from 2nd november onwards. However, we will still have our physical trainings on EVERY mondays including 2nd nov til further notice. Saturdays’ climbasia climbing will go on for some of us still, however again, it will not be a compulsory training anymore. All these are decided in considerations of people wanting to bury themselves in books for exams yet keeping their physical fitness so that they won’t change their shape too much after exams!

For the climbasia session on saturday, most of us should be arriving as usual at after 1pm. Those who wish to go earlier please get urself the NTU credit form from the counter if ur the only one early. Then return it back to the counter IF none of the rest arrived to take over from you. And drop me an sms that u left a form at the counter!

Just some teasers btw, there will be ALOT of UMC activities in the dec holidays! There are going to be a chalet, a overeas climbing/bonding trip, a training/bonding camp in school and lastly, a level 2 climbing course (limited slots available). So do keep notice for my next emails on all these!!

Welcome Climb 2009~

A very big thank you to all who attended the UMC welcome climb on 26th and 27th of August. It is our pleasure to introduce this unique sport to those of you who have never tried climbing. I really hope all of you had a great time. For those who made the right choice by joining us as a member, I hope u have a whooping time learning about the sport and having fun with all of us. The photos of the 2 days of welcome climb are uploaded onto Picasa. You may view them at http://picasaweb.google.com/ntuclimbs/WelcomeClimb2009

 Welcome Climb 2009~

Now that the welcome climb is over, it is time for a new beginning to this exciting year. Coming Wednesday on the 2nd of September, we will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the Activity Room 2, SRC at 7.30pm. We will be electing the new management committee who will be taking care of all club matters from then on. So, as a member of the club, wouldn’t you want to vote for your leader? Get to know more people in the club and at the same time listen to what the candidates have to say to win over your votes. If there is anyone who wishes to run for any position, do come for a briefing at the boulder gym on Monday, 31st August, 7.30pm.

In view of the AGM, there will be no training on Wednesday. However, climbing will be on as usual on Monday and Thursday. You can expect people to start streaming in after 6.30pm. For those of you who did not attend our welcome climb yet wish to give climbing a go, feel free to come down on either day as well.

We would also be conducting a Sports Climbing Level 1 course soon. Dates have yet to be confirmed. However, if you are interested, drop us a mail at ntuclimbs@gmail.com and provide us with your name, contact number and email. We would update you once the dates are confirmed.

‘Putting the tiles back’ day!

Hello Everybody~ It has been a long long vacation. School is going to start in less than 2 weeks time.

Ain’t anyone excited? All those sweating, bleeding, screaming and flying at the boulder wall is going to make SRC come alive again. Let it all begin!! For those of you who have been left wondering why there are no tiles on the wall, allow me to enlighten you. Ever since PUMPFEST, a variety of activities such as internship or attachment, training for competitions and overseas climbing trips besieged our members of the precious time to come back and fill our wall with colours once more. Also, the hall has to go through renovation for the coming Youth Olympic Games 2010. Therefore, we had to retreat to the reliable Climb Asia to lighten the addiction towards climbing. But still, nothing beats having a rock gym to call our own.

So, we would like to open our arms and invite anyone who is reading this right now to come join us in the colourful ceremony. We will be putting the tiles back and doing some route setting on the first Wednesday of the school term, 12th of August 2009 6.30pm, hope to see you there! Old faces, new faces, experienced, veteran, novice, never put a tile up before? We don’t really care. All that matters is you have the passion and we would like to have you. See you around!!

On a side note, here’s a video of Daniel Woods during this yr’s Mammut boulder comp! If you don’t get psyched up from this,  I don’t know wat can. Haha. Enjoy!

Edit: As there are still some spaces left on the wall, Winson will be going back to set routes and touch up this Friday, 14th August, at about 2.30pm! Anyone who’s free or interested can come down at that time!

Mr Messy =D

also Mr Lazy, Mr Hungry, Mr Mugger Mugger, they are all me… =D before you think i am a schizo, i’m not =D

sorry for the delay mr Club President, hahahaz, as you can see i am incredibly lazy, lazy to blog, lazy to do endurance routes. hahahahz For those who already know me, you will also know that I get very hungry easily, hahahaz, usually within 2 to 3 hours after every meal, so i eat roughly 5 meals a day. breakfast, brunch, lunch, high-tea, dinner and supper, ooops that makes six. =D So bear with my whining and pining for food if we ever get on overseas trips, wahahahaz, think my tripmates suffer alot in KL and krabi…

And finally mr Mugger Mugger, the reason why i call myself that sometimes, is to trick myself into thinking i really am a mugger, obviously not, hahahaz, its also an excuse to explain that to my climbing buddies when i absent myself for meetings, trainings and fun climb sessions, when actually i am enjoying somewhere else… hahahaz… alright that’s a lie… if i am not climbing, i am probably stuck with school work or rummaging around for food to satisfy my insatiable hunger… =)

Not Really a blogger, very uncomfortable talking about myself, so i will end short, and spare u all my rubbishy blog =D

Wheee

Hi, I’m Cheryl Faith Wee. Faith is my middle and baptism name.

You can see what’s in my wallet from the picture below. This wallet has been with me since sec 3. Which means i’ve had it for about 5 years. The button to the coin part is a bit rusty already.. i’ll be really sad when i have to change my wallet cause i get emotionally attached to stuff that i’ve had for a long while. I prefer the old and familiar to the new.

dsc_0262-edit2

Just in case some of you have bad eyesight and can’t see what’s inside my wallet. There are some cards with verses on them, a soup spoon card (cause i eat there all the time), a picture with erm a friend, a level one climbing card.. receipts.. etc etc.

There are some things that i can’t live without and some things that i would really like to do more. The one thing that i really cannot go without for more than 3 days max is my guitar. I named my guitar SANDY because of the abalone shell design around the sound hole which reminds me of the beach. Anyway, yeah you know how people get addicted to facebook and can’t not use it for a few days, it’s the same with me and my guitar.

Oh some other stuff you might wanna know. I used to play the violin, i still play the flute. I’ve got a lot of instruments at home, the most unique of which might be my ukulele. (You know the teeny weeny guitar thing that hula girls in hawaii play.) I was in band for 7 years.

Right now there are three things i wanna concentrate on improving. Photography, my guitar playing and CLIMBING. Three little things – for now.

holga_crosstheroad

Here’s one of my favorite pics. Taken with a “toy” plastic camera called a holga. It was truly random.

This is late, cause i tried many times to upload pics but my attempts failed! OK, Kairong you can go next!

The Sarah Chronicles.

Hi Climbers!

I didn’t know it was my turn till Allen tagged me on Facebook. So sorry! Here’s 7 things you should know about me:

1) 7 is my favourite number. There’s no reason for it. I just like it.

2) I’m blur as two sotongs…that was my nickname for a while in Temasek Poly. See Evidence A below.

Huhhhh? This was taken in Krabi, 2007.

3) I love animals! My diploma in Biotechnology from TP goes through the Veterinary Science track. I did my internship at the Zoo! Check it out.

White spot Komodo dragon having acupuncture!

img_27782 Whoops it’s the wrong way round but I’m not sure how to put it right. =X Don’t strain your neck. I had to draw blood from spur-winged geese for my major project. Such a stressful time. Especially for the geese.

4) I’m very disorganised!!! This is my side of my hall 9 room.

My side

my bed!

This is my roomie’s equivalent. She’s a random roommate and I haven’t seen her in a few days…I think her boyfriend kidnapped her.

5) I’ve been climbing for about 3 and a half years now, since the beginning of my poly life. I had the best time in TP. :)

dsc00584f1084256tpscdsc02062

Alright, from left: 1) A few guys just hanging around. 2) At pumpfest ‘06. 3)&4) Our lizard(s)! 5) Pooped out at Camp5.

:D We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.

6) Rozihan Anwar is the first and the most inspiring coach I’ve had in climbing. He once told me, “You don’t climb for anyone. Just climb for yourself. If you want to win, you go ahead and win. It’s about yourself.” WOW. I don’t think he remembers saying that but it inspired me to win in Pumpfest ‘06 (still novice then) and to push myself to improve every competition. Climbing is a mental game more than anything else. If you want to do it, don’t make excuses. Just do it. ALLEZ.

x23yan_jpgOld school Yan. I don’t really have any recent pics. Heh.

7) My clique of girl-friends is known as the Girlies. We aren’t particularly very girly so we revel in the irony of our name. All were or are from TP and in the climbing world? Nobody’s a stranger, just friends we haven’t met yet. *I know…Cheesy. But still true.*

girlies

I have a picture of us that’s isn’t 2D but somehow the uploader won’t let me display it. T_T Nothing techy ever cooperates with me. *sigh*

Alright I’m done! I hope I didn’t make this too long! You people should be studying instead of reading. ALLEZ for the exams and as always, for climbing. :)

I tag our dear Cheryl from publications to go next!

How acura came about.

Two pictures that sum up my life.

18870721018460lprodrive_p2_021600

Well…ok firstly I should just explain how my msn nick came about first. Its actually the Honda equivalent in the US, and they produce nice cars. They have good engines, due to VTEC, and its really smooth. Their engines have a really pointy torque curve, and the only way to keep the engine at optimum rpm is to couple it to a CVT gearbox, or manually. This would mean that…..

Ok enough about cars. Well I’m a guy who enjoys many hobbies, especially those that have to do with technical stuff. Photography, off-road mountain biking, R/C racing, cars, and lots of sports. And I love animals! Well in particular this one…

button-0331

Cute hor!=p

Yea but anyway, I come from humble beginnings. Was in Tao Nan Primary, then Dunman High Secondary, Temasek Junior College where I joined climbing! And finally scrapped my way to NTU. I’m in Mech Eng Yr1, as I desire to work as a mechanic next time. Imagine that the first BMW you buy, was checked and tuned by me=p It was only in TJC where I met Bernard, our QM. He was PRESIDENT of TJC Climbing Club wor! And I was the ever-hansup Flying Fox I/C who always helps girls put on their harness. So here we are in UMC, hoping to make a difference…

I must admit I’m not a good climber, I have big hands, a tendency to be lazy, and a nua body. But where a lot of people get discouraged, it is the passion and satisfaction that keeps me going. The ends always justifies the means, and it is a sport where you know what and how it takes to reach the top. And when you finally do, and look at those below you, the overwhelming feeling can never be described in words. So to those who get demoralised at times when watching Bernard, Winson and Sarah climbing, no worries! Just enjoy the climb, take in the hardship, and love it. After all, the only person you really have to win is yourself, isn’t it?

I’m sorry I don’t write as much as the 2 business students in front of me. There’s a reason why I’m in engineering, where quality comes over quantity, heehee. Tio bo?=)

Regards

And on our VP’s request…..I tag Heyi!!=)

Berd’s simple life

Hmm.. I actually wanted to start off way back in the past but realized that my pics are all at home and I’m confined in hall! =(

Oh well, just a brief description of my past. I belive the right term to use to describe me back then would be a NERD. (notice the pun in my name?) Typical small sized boy with a big head, skinny small build and fair skin who pass his time either studying or watching TV. I liked playing sports, but was defintely not a sportsperson, maybe more like jumping ard and stuff like normal boys. It was hard to play outdoor sports since I could rarely went out (din exactly socialise much either), my parents were pretty strict. My CCA was like photography in Sec sch and i practically slacked through it. and got a A grade for CCA points. LOL. Wish I could show you some pics, then you all would really know what i meant by no life nerd. aHa.

081120082201

My IC taken in sec 3. Nerd enuff? looks like a convict though. aha.

I dunno wat happen to me in JC. Got possessed or sumthing. lol. Actually part of the reason why I wanted to go TJ instead of VJ was coz they had a bigger wall. =P

Yea, I sorta decided I wanted to do climbing since I saw it on TV so often. Never regretted the choice. I guess it was the start of a major change in me. I started taking up roles and trying stuff I never imagined I would be doing in the past. The best school days of my life would be during JC. And I would say it’s coz of the climbing club. We were like family.

One of my best memories

Even though we seperated after tat, a climber can never change his chalk.. i mean a leopard can never change its spots. I was climbing more than I was working especially before gonig for army. Tsk tsk. Here’s 1 of the better shots of my last comp at boulderactive before enlisting. Sadly, I joined alone for it. Oh well.

dscn3238

The finals for boulderactive 06 INT. Looking sharp rite?

I officially stopped climbing in army. But it revived as soon as I was posted to unit a year later! From there, I started climbing with my dear friends- Jansen, Zhi Jian and Yi xiong. We formed team PCKK (Pang, Chua, Ko, Kho) and went for Ipoh and Krabi trips! =D
On a side note, a 3 week stay in thailand with 3 other guys is quite.. erm sad. Sassauge party for 3 weeks. =(

Well, thats roughly my journey so far. Now, I’m in NBS, business year 1. 3 words to sum up my current state of life. Climb. MUG. Sleep. My life revolves around them. Though I rarely hang out to socialise, I’m realy easy going! I can be alil naggy at times, and would say that I am quite a perfectionist. I like things to be in order and organised. (unless I get too tired to bother). Saying this, I just have to post these pictures up. This is the difference between my side and my roomie’s side of the room.

ALL ABOUT UNCLE B

Let me began my story…

swing8

“Hey you Big Guy, put down that camera and come give me a push!”

Name: Daniel Benjamin Balhetchet (Eurasian, mainly my eyes and weird voice I guess)

Born: 19th May 1980 (Probably the OLDEST member in UMC)

Now let’s talk about my LOVE…

small_cup_of_coffeepreview

Nothings beats a good cuppa coffee to keep me occupied anytime of the day. Coffee to me is like Cola to some people. Coffee enthusiast out there should know what I mean. =)

My CLIMBING Life…

tampin-2006-025

Started out climbing since 2005 and haven’t been able to stop since then. Would say that I’m more of a boulderer than a climber. Would very much like to do more natural high wall LEAD climbing juz that me need to work on the FEAR factor. =) Started off climbing with the PROs (older generation) who has given me good advice and tips which explains why I’m more of a non-dynamic climber and like to do more technical moves. Not that there’s anything wrong with dynamic moves but personally me prefer to climb with more controlled and precise movements as compared to flying across the wall. =)

Another favorite past-time of mine…

picture031

Occasionally I would do some baking and use my sister and close friends as guinea pigs to test out whatever I made. =) This picture you see here is the 1st cake I baked for my close friend’s birthday. Turns out quite well for a first-timer though.

All-time favorite photo…

dscn95871

Me and my good buddy walking along the houses in KL to the crags. He was primary 5 back then and could already do leading on 6A routes. He’s really amazing! Hope my small story can inspire you guys to keep on climbing and keep the climbing spirit alive!

I hereby tag my ClimbOn! team-mate Bernard to share with us his story. =)

the Shalynn post (:

Hello everyone! :D

Okay, so its my turn to tell you about myself. Firstly, a short introduction. My name is Shalynn Ler. People always say I have a very unique surname and spelling for my name. Thanks to my parents. (: Currently a Year 1 business student in NBS and previously from Temasek JC.

2 things in my wallet:

1) A little encouragement card

Photobucket

I actually have quite a few of such cards. Thought that they were meaningful and cute. So once in a while I will change the card in my wallet especially in times of depression. haha.

2) My wallet itself

Photobucket

Erm.. I know this isn’t IN my wallet. But my wallet itself carries a meaning. It was a birthday gift from my elder brother last year. I’m quite a shopaholic so I actually have the tendency to change wallet every year. But this wallet has been with me for more than a year. So its special. :D hahaha. And when I saw this wallet at Fossil, it was love at first sight. So.. yeah. (:

Next, a few things about myself.

1)

Photobucket

Right. I used to be the Choir President in my secondary school choir. haha. I know some of you may think its impossible but its true! heh. I was in S1. I quite like the CCA then regardless of how others thought it was boring yada yada. But really, singing, like all other interests depends on your passion. When you really enjoy doing it, you won’t think its boring. (: I still like singing now. Just that I dont sing as much anymore. haha. Oh, and I love the feeling when different voice parts blend together perfectly. The feeling is just – WOW. (: (:

2)

 Photobucket

I took up climbing when I was in JC 1 and I totally fell in love with the sport. Haha. I don’t like to climb competitively. I am a climber who enjoys the sport because of what it has taught me about myself, others, nature and the way of life. These three years of climbing gave me invaluable expriences, lessons learnt and friendships that I will never be able to obtain from the classrooms. Maybe some of you climbers out there feel the same too. (:

3) Lastly, regarding my personality, I am a thinking person. I am constantly learning and knowing more about myself and I feel that life, as it is, is quite amazing even though sometimes certain things tend put us down. But thats where we learn and become a better person. (: I value family, friendships and relationships a lot and I am quite a conscientious person. Quite sensitive to people’s feelings so I’ll always try my best to avoid saying or doing things which may hurt people. But I’m indecisive, which is quite bad. haha. OH! and I love adventures! height, speed etc. haha. I’m quite hyper at times. XD

I guess thats about all the general things about myself. To end off, I hope all you readers will love and enjoy climbing/bouldering as much as I do too!! (: (:

I tag my favourite Uncle B! :D

Cheers`

New tiles!

Hello fellow climbers, here the lastest update! We have just recently acquired a few sets of new tiles to add some variety!!! Let’s welcome them to the family, our wall =)

A brand new green set of slopers!

A brand new green set of slopers!

The cousins, the blue slopers!

The cousins, the blue slopers!

And let's not forget the red sloper/pincher nephews!

And let's not forget the red sloper/pincher set too!

'PLSSSSSS CLIMB US!!!'

'PLS CLIMB US!!!'

If you notice carefully, the tiles kinda follow the powerpuff colour code.. which was UNINTENTIONAL.

Anyways, don’t be intimidated by the sudden addition of slopers! Though we’ve mentioned that they aren’t exactly the best things to hold.. We’ve already tested them and they are all user-friendly!! Most importantly, they’re holdable! So be sure to watch out for them on the wall the next time you come!

And for the commitee members who didn’t turn up.. EH HEM! Tsk Tsk… Joking joking! We all understand that you may be busy so its ok! But we do have a tiles cleaning session coming up soon… hint* hint*
